Please sign here to show your support for Cooksons Bridge Pub (Cookies), and please read on for more information as to why this is relevant to Rimrose Valley and why we feel it’s important that you support it.
Cookies is the pub of Rimrose Valley. Up at the Gorsey Lane end, it sits alongside the canal near to the Pendle Estate. Many of us don’t quite realise what an asset it is to us all. Here’s why you should visit and support Cookies, as they’re under imminent threat of closure…
Very few of us are really aware of what Cookies has to offer. Doggy friendly, it provides a welcome place to stop off for a rest, get refreshments and to use the loo whenever you visit Rimrose Valley. You can choose to sit in the bar area at the front or go through to the lounge at the rear.
To get to Cookies, simply follow the canal towpath northwards through Rimrose Valley towards Ford and you can’t miss it. If you drive to Rimrose Valley, consider parking at Cookies and setting off on your walk from there.
There’s a lot more we could all be doing to embrace Cookies as part of Rimrose Valley. However, right now it’s under imminent threat of closure by the brewery, Punch. Glen the landlord and the staff who run Cookies put their heart and soul into the place and they are fighting as hard as they can to keep it going. Glen has explained that the reason for it being at risk of closure is because the brewery could make more money by renting the land to a private business (eg a major supermarket chain) than by keeping it as a pub.
By showing that Cookies is an Asset of Community Value it will be given additional protection from development under the Localism Act of 2011, and that may enough to protect it.
By signing this 38 degrees petition to show that you support Cookies, you will be helping Glen to show the council that he has sufficient community support to have Cookies designated as an Asset of Community Value – and that could mean our pub in Rimrose Valley gets to stay.
Thank you
