Guided Nature Walk 09 May 15

lowres-webbkgrnd.jpg

Between 9 and 11am on Saturday 9th May Rimrose Valley Friends held the first Guided Nature Walk. Led by Head Ranger Eugene McCann from Sefton Council’s Coast and Countryside Team we enjoyed an educational insight to the wondrous flora and fauna that lives in Rimrose Valley.

Thankfully the rain held off though the weather was overcast and at times chilly. Despite that we had an amazing turnout and it seems that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event. With the colder than hoped weather we didn't get to see as much as we'd all intended, but what we did see was still fantastic. As well as seeing a whole host of birds and learning to recognise the different sounds of each one singing, we also learned more about the wetlands and flora including the very interesting stories Eugene told about how they went about restoring Rimrose Valley to its natural beauty a few years ago.

Fruit in Abundance!

Eugene pointed out Hazelnut, Apple, Pear, Cherry, Blackberry and Plumb trees; all of which are suitable for human consumption, amazingly tasty, juicy and sweet he said; and he encouraged Rimrose Valley Friends to help themselves at the various times of the year when the fruit is ripe for picking and eating!

We've been so encouraged by the success of this event that we'll arrange another for June 2015. We had plenty of people expressing interest in another, so watch this space!
