This is a REALLY important update from us, via our friends at Transport Action Network.

***PLEASE TAKE THE SIMPLE ACTION BELOW***

Since Labour formed the government in July, it has wasted no time in setting the wheels in motion for change.

The new Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, announced a £22bn financial black hole and the need for swingeing cuts. She asked Transport Secretary Louise Haigh to hold a review to look at “the previous government’s transport commitments.”

THIS INCLUDES THE A5036 PORT OF LIVERPOOL ACCESS SCHEME.

We now need your help to get this, and the Conservatives’ wider national roads programme scrapped.

To do this, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click here
  2. Complete the personal details to the right of the page (you can opt in, or out of future updates)
  3. Click on Start Writing
  4. Scroll down and read the pre-written letter template, amending it as you see fit so it’s personal to you
  5. After the paragraph ending “…dodgy figures” copy and past the following, changing it as you see fit, so it reflects your view:

“I am specifically concerned about the previous Conservative government’s A5036 Port of Liverpool Access Road. This would bulldoze a vital green space – Rimrose Valley Country Park – and invite more and more HGV traffic into our communities. The park is essential for people’s health & wellbeing and the environment. It connects communities and serves as a busy active travel corridor in South Sefton, keeping cars off our roads. The road proposal would completely sever these links and destroy community cohesion. It is incredible for biodiversity with many protected species calling it home and it captures CO2 from our atmosphere, tackling climate change at a local level. We need this road to be cancelled as part of your review and for the money allocated to this scheme to be diverted into sustainable infrastructure to support the port’s growth, not more roads and HGVs. Sefton Council and both constituency MPs oppose the road and the Metro Mayor backs their calls for fresh alternatives to be explored. Please work with them to make this happen.”

Then add your name after “Yours sincerely” and click Send!

PLEASE DO THIS AS A MATTER OF URGENCY. THIS REVIEW IS UNDERWAY AND THE CONCLUSIONS IT REACHES WILL FEED INTO THE FUNDING DECISIONS MADE BY THE CHANCELLOR IN THE OCTOBER BUDGET.

Thank you for your support.
